Flea Season is fast approaching!
I couldn't even post a picture of a flea here as it makes even MY skin crawl. But here are the facts.
In a typical room, 5 percent of the fleas will be found on pets, 10 percent flea cocoons in the carpets, 35 percent flea larvae and 50 percent flea eggs again in the carpets. So for every flea you see on your pet, approx 100 more are in your home. A flea can jump as high as 4 feet so you're not getting away! Fleas can stay dormant and live without blood supply for up to 3 months. So when you go on vacation, those starving little guys are waiting to attack the minute you get home. Not only that, but there are thousands more that have hatched waiting for their meal also.
There are many ways to rid your pet and home of fleas. START EARLY. Don't wait until flea season is here. Starting in April with a spray of your home with a spray that has a 6 month residual effect is optimum. Getting either drops, pills, collars or needles for your pet to rid them of fleas is essential. Some of these medications also rid them of mange and certain worms too. You can consult with your vet about which method is best for your home and your pet. Certain store bought ones actually can kill your pet so be careful which one's you buy commercially.
Certain flea products can be bought over the internet also that are only available from your vet. If you have any questions regarding fleas, you can post me a message.
